Facilties
Below are a selection of facilities available at Teach Me Happy
Classroom Environment
A “Teach Me Happy” alternative provision classroom is a flexible, free-flow environment designed to prioritise emotional safety, autonomy, and strong relationships, particularly for learners with a Pathological Demand Avoidance profile. Instead of rigid structure and direct demands, it uses choice, indirect language, and collaboration to reduce anxiety and support engagement, recognising that behaviour is communication. Students can move between calming, creative, and academic learning spaces as needed, with adults acting as supportive guides who focus on co-regulation and trust rather than control. Learning is often interest-led and adapted to the individual, with success measured through engagement, confidence, and wellbeing rather than just academic output.

Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning plays a key role in our approach, with opportunities for planting and growing at our local allotment, Hagg Woods and within our paddock area at the farm. These spaces provide a calm, low-demand environment where students can engage in hands-on, meaningful activities such as planting, maintaining crops, and caring for the land. This supports regulation, builds responsibility, and encourages connection with nature, while also developing practical life skills, teamwork, and a sense of achievement in a way that feels safe and self-directed.

Farm
Our riding school further enhances our provision offer by giving students the opportunity to work with horses in a therapeutic environment. Through activities such as grooming, groundwork, and riding, young people develop trust, emotional regulation, and communication skills while engaging in purposeful, motivating experiences. The non-judgemental nature of working with animals can be especially powerful for those who find traditional classroom settings challenging, supporting wellbeing, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment in a calm and structured yet low-pressure setting.

Park
Sensory diets are also supported through regular visits to our local park, where students can access a range of natural sensory experiences in a relaxed and open environment. Activities such as walking, climbing, swinging, or simply spending time in green space help meet individual sensory needs, supporting regulation and reducing anxiety. These sessions are child-led and adaptable, allowing students to engage at their own pace while benefiting from movement, fresh air, and the calming effects of nature, which in turn supports readiness for learning and overall wellbeing.
Maths
We also provide 1:1 maths learning delivered by fully qualified teachers, ensuring that academic progress is supported alongside wellbeing. For Key Stage 2, teaching follows the National Curriculum, while for Key Stages 3 and 4, learning is aligned with Functional Skills qualifications. Sessions are personalised, paced to the individual, and delivered in a low-pressure, supportive way that reduces anxiety and builds confidence, enabling students to re-engage with maths and experience success in a way that feels achievable and positive.

English
We offer 1:1 English learning with fully qualified teachers, following the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2 and Functional Skills pathways at Key Stages 3 and 4. Teaching is tailored to each learner, focusing on reading, writing, communication, and comprehension in ways that link to individual interests and real-life contexts. Delivered in a calm, flexible environment, sessions are designed to reduce pressure, build confidence, and support students to develop essential literacy skills while experiencing success and enjoyment in their learning.
